Advertisement (1971) Showing the Red Needles

Thanks to Heinz Rengel -- who gave us the great information about why the red needles were changed back to black needles -- for digging through his files and finding this great advertisement. Yes, here it is . . . the Autavia 1163 GMT, with the red needles, shown in a 1971 pilots supply catalog.

: Over the years, we have had some speculation about the execution
: of the Autavia Ref 1163 GMT, with the red needles on the
: chronograph recorders, as shown below.

: I am happy to report that I have received some interesting
: information about why the red needles were switched back to
: black --
: http://www.onthedash.com/thoughts/autavia-gmt-red-needles/

: Still no good explanation as to why Heuer went from the black
: needles to the red needles [other than style, I assume], but at
: least we now know why Heuer switched back, from the red needles
: to the black needles.

: Special thanks to Heinz Rengel for sharing his very interesting
: story!!
