A Couple of Reactions to This Report from Crown & Caliber

I find this posting and the underlying data to be very interesting. I believe that this is an important subject for analysis and discussion -- people buying new watches are interested to hear which ones are likely to retain their value and which ones will suffer immediate and short-term depreciation. Of course, most people buying new luxury watches do not expect to be selling them in the near term; still, it is nice to know that the $6,000 watch will be worth $4,000 in a couple of years, rather than $2,000. This will affect the buying decision!!

A couple of suggestions for this type of presentation:

  • It would be great to cover a few more brands (with the style of watch that Crown & Caliber was analyzing)
  • It would also be great to cover a second style of watch . . . perhaps these same brands, plus a few more, in a second category of watch . . . this way we will learn more about the power of the brand, across multiple watches.
  • It would be useful to know the date of the MSRP so that we can evaluate the depreciation of the watch. Is this depreciation in two or three years or is it more immediate?
I give my friends at Crown & Caliber huge credit for producing this data and posting this report. It is a very useful item, in its current form. With some additional data, it will become even more useful for buyers of luxury watches!! Well done!!
