Best no longer means perfect!

Sometimes seems to me to live in opposite worlds.

When I saw first Merzario's watch, i noticed immediately the oxidation on the case, and i remember that my CHN, when i bought it, had the same patina.

I remember having cleaned my watch, that remained in a safe for more than 20 years, with a microfiber towel (yes, it's not that big issue to remove oxidation from gold)
and, looking at the result, saying myself how i've been stupid. That patina was adding something unique to the watch. Something difficult, long to create and extremely easy to remove.

Aren't we looking for "history" on our watches? Why they have to be artificially shining?

I notice that some Rolex Daytona in 18kg gold hit crazy prices at auctions when they have unpolished case with patina...

Here are pictures of some of them:

By the way, in the world of vintage cars, it seems to me that the era of over-restored car is definitely terminated:
in all elegance concours, judges are giving now premium to unrestored, unmolested, patinated cars (i don't mean destroyed!!)
and we are seeing now them winning top prizes:

So, everything is perfectly fine to me with Merzario's Carrera, and i wish the lucky owner will never clean this watch.
