I've always found it to be a waste blowing half the cost of what you really want on a temporary solution.
To avoid spending too much money now and ending up with something rather redundant a year from now, how about getting an interesting watch of another kind?
My two suggestions would be a used Omega Dynamic (try watchseller.com and bernardwatch.com) or a new military style watch (like those at WestCoasTime).
