Dave, I agree with your opinion, I realy like my SMP quartz and find it the right choice for myself and I still feel it is a quality watch.
I also think the automatic version is a wonderful choice and a state of the art in mechanics, but a bit expensive for my budget and I also prefer to use my spare time to take care of my boxer dog not my watch. I find it a bit strange how people here complain about the chrono accuaracy which is not an issue in quartz, also how some spend so much time testing watch sleep positions, but as you said it is a toy for many people.
In my opinion Omega makes very fine and beautiful watches, no matter if it is quartz or chrono.
