I think Dave has a point.
Why should any one in sane mind care about mechanical watch when quartz can do a much better job in almost all circumstances... unless you love and appreciate things 'mechanical'.
I still remember my first watch my dad gave me when I was a kid. It was a FAVRE LUEBA. Then as a kid I had little or no appreciation for old watches and traded it for a cheap Casio.
Today I will give anything to get that watch back!!
So I feel age and maturity also plays an important role in appreciating fine works of art.
