Re: Water resistance of Speedmaster Professional>>

Here is my take on the water resistance on the Speedmaster Professional. I must first mention that I don't own one and am basing my opinions on watches with a 30 meter depth rating. I will get one soon though. Other than a Seamaster Professional that I use for diving and everyday beater, I own a few automatic Swatches. While I almost always wear my SMP for diving, I sometimes go down with one of the basic Swatch Autos. It is just a matter of jumping off the boat and forgetting I have it on. When I am the bottom, be it 30 or 60 feet, I just say screw it since it costs less than $100. They have never taken in water. I can tell easily since they have display backs. I am sure that if they were old with old seals, I would not be so lucky. But in proper order, they have never taken in h2o. Now, considering Swatch is a much lesser watch than Omega, one has to come to the assumption that you can at least surface swim with a Speedmaster. It is either that or Omega is vastly overstating the Speedmaster's 30 meter rating. Being that Swatch is Omega's parent company, I am sure that they would make sure that there would be the same sort of accuracy of depth ratings in one of their two flagship marques. Again, it is easy to try in Swatches because they are so cheap and have close to the same depth ratings. When I pick up a Speedmaster, I doubt I will forget to take it off and find myself in the bottom with it on. But I WILL surface swim with it. Of course, I will have it pressure tested beforehand. On another note, I once saw a NASA picture of underwater astronaut training in spacesuits where the astronauts had the Speedmasters on. I doubt they had them repaired every time they did those simulations in the pool. I wish I could find the picture and post it on here.
