Nothing scientific, but I have the Speedy day-date on a croc strap and it's really a striking watch... My favorite one for 'today', actually. :)
I know the usual arguments for and against the Rolexs, but in the end, it's still a watch. It's going to get scratched, dragged across desks, and dropped on the floor sometime or other. Personally, I'm not too big on the Ex-II, so this is a no-brainer of a choice for me... regardless of the brand. Forget about the brand name. I don't think that Rolexs are 'so' superior that they justify the extra cost. (Boy, am I asking for it...) And I don't think that the general public cares if you have a Rolex either... usually the first question I get is "Is it real?"
Both brands are excellent, but both will depreciate and require regular maintenance at a cost. I think that, of your two choices, the Omega is a better looking (and likely less expensive) watch with more appeal.
My 0.02.
