The co-axial escapement has been in handmade, very high end, watches for a number of years. But I agree with you that this technology will have to prove itself in production over a period of time.

I agree. A person would be foolish to underestimate the Rolex 'brand'. I also believe Rolex has some real substance behind their killer brand. My point was not to knock Rolex, but to point out that the configuration of Rolex's business, i.e. self-contained manufacturer, is not the business model that made the world famous Swiss watch industry what it became. In many ways the Rolex model, as it turns out, has served Rolex extremely well. I just wanted to point out that while we may have a tendency to laud the Rolex business model, it is not the model that got watches to the high technical level they enjoy today.

I don't dislike Rolex. Emotionally, I'm neutral on them. I have seen a few Rolex watches I thought were attractive, but overall I'm just not drawn to the Rolex aesthetic. This a very personal thing and I would not, and could not, criticize someone else who is. As to their quality, clearly they have some excellent quality behind most of their watches. I also agree with you that no one can deny Rolex their position as sales leader in their category. That is a business accomplishment they can be justly proud of.

Georges, while lurking here for a while I have enjoyed reading your posts very much. You have a lot of knowledge and a pleasant way of sharing it. I've really benefitted from your input. Geo
