I have no was to 'see' into the minds at Omega. It is curious that they made no changes or additions to the SMP Chronographs this year, despite numerous additions to the SMP Divers.
Possibly, they are waiting for a few months of consumer reaction to the new SMP's before commiting changes to the Chronograph versions. Certainly, the regular SMP is the big seller.

The two are completely unrelated.

Have you checked that it is not one of the common clasp problems shown in the zOwie Seamaster FAQ? If it is a different problem, then simply send the bracelet in to be fixed!
This should be very easy if you just bought the watch new--have it done under warranty. If you bought the watch used, then you may have to pay, but I doubt the cost would be too much for a simple clasp repair. And, you do not have to do without the watch--simply move the watch to an inexpensive strap and send ONLY the bracelet in for repair.
