Hi guys!
I would like your opinion on the new modified, improved speedy day-date. Omega will be releasing these in the UK in and around mid-Dec (if my sources are right). Unfortunately the Omega website is notoriously slow at updating anything. The new model I am interested in is 3221.30.00 (type it into google, see what you get!)
The information I have are:
Case is 40mm, not 39mm as before;
The date-pointer is a "pointer" not a crescent;
The bezel colour will match the dial's colour (not an issue with the black, and I suspect the silver dial will have a polished stainless steel bezel as now);
The upper sub-dial has been "cleaned" with the removal of the 5s and only the 10s are seen;
The hour markers are more triangular;
The bracelet will not be as flat as before, but similar to the broad arrow style bracelet;
The middle sub-dial hand is changed slightly, with a more elongated pointer;
The hippocampus is larger on the caseback;
The calibre of movement is 3606;
The water resist has increased to 100m from 50m.
Now after talking with Project development in Bienne (over a phone, unfortunately) it transpires that cal.3606 will be an ETA-based movement, not a Puiget-based one. Only minor changes were made to the existing one to bring it to "Chronometer" status. This movement has not yet been used before in an Omega. Do you think there will be issues with this movement, in the same way as the 33xx series had?
Any thoughts which will be better (obviously on speculation) an ETA-based movement, modified to "chronometer status" or the Valjoux movement used currently?
I hope someone out there can help with these questions, especially with regard to the movements...
