Gentlemen... There was a Au/SS version of the SeMPC, in fact, I think there may well have been two models: one like the item pictured on eBay and a similar model with a White dial. In any case the SS/AU model[s] were discontinued towards the end of the 1990's, definitely by 2000 or 2001. In fact, when I visited NYC in the summer of 1999 for MacWorld Expo I took an afternoon off and did a whirlwind tour of the Watch and Jewelry district as well as walking up Fifth avenue and down Madison Avenue's. The sales person at Kenjo's was wearing a white Dial Au/SS SeMPC. It didn't strike me as an unusual watch at the time, so it was probably correct. I hadn't bought my Ti/Ti SeMPC yet so I noticed SeMPC's when I saw them.

Oh, and the calibre on these models would have been c.1164 (Valjoux 7750 Base).

If you look at my Dimensions page (link below) you'll see at the bottom of the Seamaster table:

I don't personally recall the Case Reference number of the AU/SS SeMPC but I think it's very possible that 2296.80 may well be correct. It sounds right, but you'd all have to ask an AD to search back through their old catalogs to find a reference because, as I've said, it's been discontinued for at least 5 or 6 years if not longer.

I note that the seller has a 397 feedback rating and is listed at 100% which would indicate to me that he is probably fairly trustworthy. I don't have a 100% feedback rating (thanks to an idiot who wouldn't respond to my emails).

I don't know that I see anything wrong with the caseback either. It doesn't look that different from the caseback of my Ti/Ti SeMPC.

So he may have mis-remembered an old Case reference number, or it may be a typo, or it may just be right. I don't know...

Y'all _could_ email the fella with your questions if you were serious about the item...
