I think MOST came with a "brushed" finish that radiates from the dial outwards ( lets call this "sunburst" )
HOWEVER ... I believe the MK III speedmasters came with the above mentioned "sunburst" finish & ALSO came in a Pilotline case that was "almost" smooth, where the machining marks run around the dial as shown here ( lets call this one "Radial" )
I know a German speedmaster collector who has a NOS MK III with this finish.
The Omegamania Auction , Lot #215 also clearly shows this finish.
I have never sen another pilotline case with this finish ( in period documentation )
I've promised myself to write a small webpage on this oneday... ( when I'm about 95 ! ). I'll rescan some of my Catalogues in more details to highlight the cases I mean then.
