zOwie Omega Discussion Forum

If the watch is undamaged, the seals are replaced, and the screw down crown (if it has one) is undamaged, the water resistance should be equal to when the watch was new.

But most of the older 'waterproof' watches were rated only to a 10-30 meter depth range. Many older models did not even attempt to be water-resistant. Back then, it was more commonly understood to take your watch off before you went in water unless your watch specifically said is was safe for use in water.

Now it is taken for granted that all fine watches are at least sufficiently water resistant to deal with some exposure to water. Currently, all new Omega watches are rated to a minimum of 30 meters.

Very few if any of the Omega watches prior to 1960's were rated for the more extreme depths of 200-300 meters that are pretty common now.
