Chuck's Scan day - Watch #2 Darth Maul *PICS* *LINK*

Oneday Chuck & I were chatting ( AIM ) & one of us said something like...

" Wouldn't a flightmaster look really cool if it were fitted with a "roulette" rotating inner bezel"

We then moved onto fantasising about how we could customize various Omegas. Both Chuck & I are speedmaster MK II fans. By pure chance it is the first speedmaster that we bought. Chuck has documented his well ( see link at the end of this post ). I Bought mine nearly 20 years ago from a friend who needed some cash.

Anyway, in the course of our chat we both agreed we'd like to do something with a MK II. various suggestions were made ( eg fitting a flightmaster movement, mesh bracelets, etc etc ) One of us mentioned PVDing the case & that was it for me. I instantly knnew what I wanted to make.

Chuck & I got the cases PVD'd by Jack @ IWW. We both had new bracelets done. My watch is below. Chuck was planning to have a Japaenese ltd edtion dial fitted to his ( it would look like mine, but without the Mark II line ) & he was going to fit normal mk II "racing hands".

The Idea & work was done on the cases a few years before the "other" PVD'd MKII's began to appear. As far as I know Chuck & I only ever told 1 person about our plans, so it's quite amazing that someone else had almost exactly the same idea.

So here's my watch, which I may never have built had I not had that conversation with Chuck.

This was the "donor" watch ( case & movement )

& this is the final result

Finally the name .... Darth Maul was not one of Chucks suggestions. Indeed he didn't like the name. He thought the Star wars connection should be used for the Seamaster range ( as with his Darth Vader, Anakin & Jedi nicknames ) RRryan suggested the name & I think it fits well.
