What you say about quartz watches is all true. But most serious watch afficionados consider the automatic the higher form of watch movement art and engineering. The rarest (and most pricey) watches are automatics and even some are manual-wind. I do own a Casio G-shock, its purpose is to just tell time in conditions that are down-right abusive. If telling time was my ONLY need, I would never have bought this Omega or any of my previous Rolexes. A fine automatic watch is, in my opinion, a monument to the ability of humans to make a machine that can tell time using the energy of your own motion. The only reason I offered the spreadsheet to other watch enthusiasts is so that they may confirm or deny that their watch is running well...no guess work needed. If you just bought a certified chronometer, you should want to know that you got what you paid for.
