"Heavy brushing"? Yes, that's probably the technical term. The picture on the Brittons website is rather dark so the brushing doesn't show. There's a good photo of a gold plated version of the same watch under "Vintage" on the same website (No. 1132); I tried it, but didn't like it (looked like brass, not gold), but the surface was nicely polished unlike the one I am about to buy. I shall try to get them to adjust the watch for free! It's a small firm with a pleasant staff of two - photos on the website!

My two watches sound the same to me, but when I was young and foolish I was in the Royal Artilley and had my ears pounded by the guns, so they are not as clear as they might be.
