While there are always exceptions to the rule for any highly regarded product, in general the SMP is among the more reliable and accurate mechanical watches available. Its uses the unexciting but highly regarded ETA 2892A2 movement which is used (with and without modifcations) in watches ranging from a little over $1000 USD to several thousand dollars.
When you take the case, bracelet and styling in to account, and factor in a 15% to 35% or more discount on an already reasonable list price, its a steal.
As an example, some may argue that the Rolex Submariner is a significantly better watch. I won't debate that here, but one thing is irrefutable. The sub at around $3500 can be purchased with no more than a 10% discount(if you can get a discount at all). The $1750 SMP can often be purchased for between $1100 and $1200, or less! Its effectively almost 1/3 the price of the Rolex sub.
Its not everyone's cup of tea, but its a good choice for a fine watch which won't break the bank but looks like much more than the sum of its parts.
