I'll wade in here as I happen to own both Omega and Rolex. I didn't buy my Rolex to impress anyone and neither did I buy my Omegas to impress anyone. I bought them because they appealed to my tastes.
I had an Omega Seamaster GMT. I liked the functionality the watch offered but there was something about the bezel that I didn't like. I ended up trading that for something non-watch related. I was then fortunate enough to find a Rolex GMT Master II which is, functionaly equivalent to the Omega GMT. The price on the Rolex was a few hundred more that the Omega, but I liked the styling and the comfort so I bought it. It was just that simple. I still enjoy my Omegas, but I have other brands that I enjoy.
Omega and Rolex each have their own rich history and clientele.
