Re: Well, I think it's assumed that someone who...

: is going to buy a $15,000 solid 18k watch isn't
: digging ditches, mowing the lawn or banging
: it around.

Well, there are several models (as you mentioned below) seamasters, submariners etc thatīre made of 18k gold. So, even if I donīt intend to dig ditches or change winter tires with the jewellery on itīs still a "sport watch" ! :)

: Notching that premise down a bit, I have
: noticed that Omegas more recent 18k/SS
: watches (Specifically the America's Cup, and
: 2455.50/80) no longer have Gold Crowns our
: HEVs. The older models did, but perhaps
: that's why they are making them SS now. But
: my belief is that it was to put less Gold
: into the watch, without lowering the price.
: More proffit margin.

Really?! If Omega changed the configuration to gain ruggedness of the watch/crown *and* lowering the price, itīd sound sweeter.
Nevertheless, if the crown itself is made of 18k gold and you wind it every day + occasional bangs, then the wear and tear of it must be much more severe then its steel version counterpart..
