Jewels are only a minor issue...

For the most part, the number of jewels is an irrelevant and useless basis of comparison between two watches.

Jewels are used to reduce friction at several key points in a watch movement. Each watch movement of different design has different needs. What is important is that your watch's movement uses them effectively in its design.

The jewels used in watch movements are synthetic and very inexpensive, so you don't even have to worry about the manufacturer skimping and using less jewels than the watch movement really needed.
