Re: Different case manufacturers? (revised)

You did hear correctly and I believe you have a US "National Production" model.

The movement dates from about 1953, which would be consistant with the engraving date on your watch. It would take some time from the manufacture date to be imported, cased and distributed to the retailer.

National production, due to high import duties, was a fairly common practice in the post WWII world. It also occured to some degree in South America and the UK. Some Swiss houses created entirly separate branding for these watches (Jaeger-LeCoultre vs. LeCoultre, for example)

I would not consider this a Frankenwatch, since the watch seems to be exactly as it left the original retailer in 1955. Of course, one can never know for sure.
