Thanks much for the expert advice.
I'm new at this, but I learned a few things about recognizing originality from the guitar world. But I still got stumped every now and then. The watch world strikes me as a little different where it's all about looking for aesthetic problems like refinned dials and changed parts. The scary part about buying guitars on e-bay was trying to divine structural problems from a few blurry photos.

In any case, I'm pretty happy about the price--that engraved 1974 in the box went for $1500, and the '78 went for $1100.

I'll report back when it arrives and post pics (if I can figure out how to get iphoto to size them.)

best
Allen
