: Is there a quality advantage to either a quartz
: or automatic watch? I've tried to research
: the pros and cons of each, but I'm still not
: sure...
: Quartz seems to require less service - Per
: Omega specs, the quartz should have regular
: service every other battery change (how long
: does a battery last?) and the auto should be
: serviced every five years.
: The quartz is more accurate (however a few
: seconds either way doesn't matter to me).
: The quartz is rated to 5000 G's for shock
: resistance. Omega doesn't rate the auto.
: The quartz is several hundred dollars less.
: Do automatics maintain more of their value?
: Any info is appreciated.
You've prety much covered all of the bases here. There are a lot of advantages to a quartz watch, but many (actually all) WISes prefer mechanical driven ones. It's because of history, mechanical marvel and that intrigues WISes to get mechanical watches. These watches also have the more applealing 'sweep' second hand compared to the 'tick-tock' of quartz watches. The more you investigate mechanical watches, the more you become amazed at the engineering feat that is accomplished in every timepiece that's made. A spring driven watch is less accurate and unpredictable, but that means its got personality. Yes, an automatic watch will keep its value better than a quartz one, but get the one that you truely want, not the one that will sell better in the long run.......
Hope that helped...
