WOW !! - here's some Info. *LINKS*

Hi Allen,

thanks for posting that. It looks genuine to me.

The only place, that I am aware of, that shows EXACTLY this watch is the recent Isnardi Book - Omega Masters. This model is featured on page 142/143, showing it on exactly the same green strap. ( notice the crown ? that's the same too ). There is no doubt that this is genuine.

According to "Omega Masters" this was a special version for the Italian Market for the 1993 Formula 1 race. I quote "This watch was given to all the drivers winning a pole position during the race"

As we all know, at the end of qualifying, only 1 can have pole. But during qualifying pole can change, someone is quickest, then someone else could be quicker THEN have pole, then another is quicker etc etc.... but at the end there is only ONE pole position..... and I don't understand the 3 words "during the race" in the original sentence..... Hmmm

So I think something has been lost/found in the translation from Italian. It doesn't say if these watches were also available to the public.

I then checked this with Chucks speedmaster history table which came from Marco Richon. There are 2 entries in there for "green" speedmasters.

The first is a French limited edition with engraving from 1993 ..... this doesn't seem to match the watch 100%. => 1993 french watch

The second entry is for a Speedmaster "Golf" with a green dial & silver subdials. Unfortunately this model is ONLY listed as being available on a bracelet. So, whilst a "better" match, it is still not 100% => 1994 Green watch ( look at the entry with the 1155 movement )

So, there's no doubt that it is genuine & no doubt that it is rare ........ But whether it's worth the asking price ? - Not to me :-)

Thanks for sharing the link Allen. Nice one !

S.
