: just to say that it has been serviced before
: with no problems and has only started giving
: me trouble in the past year

What do you mean by serviced? With this many years it would need a complete strip down to individual parts, parts cleans, reassembled and oiled. If they just oiled it at last service then the train wheels and pinions are probably gritted up and this will make it stop. The automatic mechanism might also be not be quite as free as it should be, so not winding fully or as fast as ideal. This can be checked by winding the crown and checking that the mainspring is slipping
at the end of a full day's wearing. A definitie sign that it needs an overhaul is the watch will slow slightly and then intermittantly stop but restart after a quick shake for maybe a year or so before it more or less stops all the time. It will cost $200 for a decent overhaul job done right. So if the jeweler charged you alot less then they def did not overhaul it.
