Re: Please tell me it isn't serious

: Okay, I got a black omega seamaster quartz for
: my graduation.
: I love watches, this is my first omega (and my
: most expensive watch thus far) and I
: certainly hope it won't be my last.

: Now for my problem.
: I treat this thing like gold; I want it to last
: a life time...sooo as a bit of a geek, I was
: polishing (within the first two weeks of
: owning it) and I noticed that the saphire is
: raised at one end of the crown, more so than
: the other. On one side it's perfactly
: smooth, while on the other side it is raised
: just enough to catch a fingernail on.

: It doesn't effect the look of the watch at all,
: but I'm a bit obsessive, as you may have
: realized, and I know the defect is there,
: and it bothers me;
: so I was wondering if this is normal, or if I
: should get this fixed, or if it is as
: serious as I'm making it out to be?

: thank you for time

: Simon

Hi Simon, congratulations on the watch! Not anything but a very minor flaw. I too inspect my watches obsessively and can appreciate your concern. I do see this very minor defects (more like variances) in many of the Seamaster 300's that I have owned or inspected. I consider this in the same category as "slightly misaligned hands" and "misaligned bezels." Most likely all within tolerances. One thing I have learned is there is no such thing as a perfect watch. As a matter of fact, Rolex has these same issues.

Anyway, I believe your problem is more about the bezel than the crystal. Sometimes the springs that hold in the bezel may make the crystal appear very slightly higher or lower depending on how you are viewing the watch. This will have absolutely NO bearing on your water resistance. If it bothers you that much, I would see if it's not to late to exchange it. I myself wouldn't send it back to Omega to correct this issue but only you can decide what you are and are not willing to accept. Enjoy your new watch!
