: Hi William,

: From what you've written & the pics that
: you've shown, I'd say it is definately a
: converted pocket watch.

: The case Markings sound like plenty of pocket
: watches that I have looked at ( I have to
: say that I am not a pocket watch collector,
: I just look now & then )

: Here's a Link to an eBay auction for a typical
: Omega pocket watch => eBay Auction #
: 320183456651

: As you can see the case is very similar.

: Looking at the shape of the movement parts, it
: could be possible to convert the eBay
: movement into yours ( the screws are in the
: same/simialr positions etc etc ) And there
: is no movement number visible on the eBay
: watch.

: I did hear that early Omega movements were
: marked UNDER the dial. But in you case, you
: can also see that area.

: So is your's a genuine Omega movement ? I don't
: know. It could be.

: All I'd say is the following. If it is genuine,
: why does it not have any Omega markings on
: it anywhere ? & Why would someone go to
: all that trouble & REMOVE the omega
: markings ?

: I think if the movement is NOT marked Omega
: anywhere, you have your answer.

: If you have access to a Jewellers loop ( at
: least X8 ) look at the movement components.
: if look cheap & poorly finished under
: magnification, you also have another pretty
: good indicator that the movement is not
: genuine.

: I hope this helps a bit

: Steve

Hi Steve, thank you very much for your input. Actually the movement does have, at the top, a flat bar with the inscription "OMEGA" an antique font. The movement is very ornate, inscribed and decorated almost every piece and part. It has an expensive and quality look to the movement. I will try to arrange a close photo of the movement. The thing that makes me nervous is that I do not find a serial number on either the front or back of the movement, both sides of which are of course visible.

The previous seller appears to be a long time trustworthy Ebay seller. Of course one never knows.
Thanks again, any further comments appreciated.
Bill
