Yes. Running is a good thing. After all, the watch is made to run. You have watches out there that are running non-stop for at least 25 years, and they still work fine.
I would not worry too much about wear. I would worry more about the lubricant drying out and not given the opportunity to lubricate the mechanism.
So, try and wind them fully at least every two (2) weeks. About 25-30 rotations will do it.
But if they have the date, a good rule is not to set it 3 hours before and 3 hours after midnight.
