Re: Ladies DeVille Watch
In Response To: Re: Ladies DeVille Watch ()

: I am sorry you feel insulted. But, let's consider what you asked
: for . . .

: Your original post: "A few years ago I inherited an omega
: ladies watch. I have tried to find out about it but cant find
: any information so hope you guys may be able to help.
: It is black and gold, has a round face with black background and
: gold lines to indicate numbers. The strap is mainly black metal
: with gold, The clasp is black with the omega letter on it. The
: back of the face has DeVille on it with a kind of raised
: "house" on it. Sorry the description is not too good.
: I could take a photo and put on forum if no-one has heard
: of anything like it.
"

: My reply was, in part:

: "The description you offer is so generic it could literally
: apply to hundreds of models. . . . .Internet forums tend to
: operate on a barter system of sorts. You make some effort to
: post photos and the story behind your watch, you will be amazed
: at the amount of helpful information that you can receive.
: "

: You acknowledge your description is poor. I asked you to post
: photos, and directed you to a description on how to do so --
: something you offered to do. I explained why photos are
: necessary.

: I offered the only information that I could reliably tell you --
: the approximate era when the Deville logo you describe was used.
: To put things in perspective: the current Omega price list of
: all of their models is 18 single spaced pages in two columns in
: 9 point type . . . . a couple of thousand models. Neither I nor
: anyone else will be able to recognize your watch from a brief
: description unless it is in some way out of the ordinary.

: Photos would help, but opening the watch and recording the numbers
: from the movement and the inside of the case back would be
: better. Do you realize you did not offer whether the watch was
: running or not or if it were mechanical or quartz?

: I suppose this is analogous to going to the doctor and telling him
: I could tell you about my symptoms (take photos) but I didn't.
: And when he says that would be a good idea, but you need to fill
: out a medical history up front (describe your watch's story a
: bit) you get insulted and leave . . . . you wouldn't have gotten
: treated by the doctor and you didn't get any information about
: your watch.

: I will admit the doctor shouldn't tell you about the a**h***
: patient he just had that wouldn't fill out the paperwork and
: wouldn't give a medical history . . . it just wasn't relevant.
: In the same way, another poster's rudeness wasn't relevant, and
: I apologize for mentioning that story to you.

Yes I did say I would take photos but no-one replied to even acknowledge my post! I am not (as you probably are aware) a watch expert. The watch is in working order and runs with a battery. I would be very reluctant to open the back myself so would probably need to take it in somewhere. I am not particularly interest in the financial value rather than the history. I feel I need to explain this in order to answer your posts to me.
