Speedmaster repair

I've owned a wonderful speed-master chrono for 4 years. I bought it barely used and it has worked great but 2 months ago the return pusher button came off.
I looked for a repairman here in NYC and found one that had good things posted about him. I took the watch to him and was charged 600
to replace the pusher and give it an overhaul. Okay. I got the watch back and on vacation jumped into the pool. The watch immediately
filled with water. I looked at the replaced pusher and it seemed that the only thing holding it on was a spring because it would vibrate when I touched it. I called the repair shop and one of the workers admonished me, telling me I shouldn't swim with a chronograph.
I returned to NY and brought it to the shop after drying it out. The owner told me I shouldn't swim with the watch because its
not waterproof, and tried drawing a diagram of a pusher explaining why it isn't waterproof. I left it with him to clean and went back and checked my manual for the specs. The watch is water resistant to 100 meters.
I don't want to worry about water again. My question is if you replace a pusher isn't the entire assembly screwed into place on the case.
The watch isn't vintage so shouldn't I expect it to be water resistant after being repaired. I'm not a diver but I would like to swim in the pool and take a shower.
Am I being unreasonable?
