Re: Accuracy of mechanical watches and break-in
: Hey Roger, I don't much subscribe to the notion that watches have a
: break in period. But if Seiko
: says it does, that's good enough for me. However, your post got my
: curiosity up a bit, so I took a
: look at some of the owners manuals for watches I own. Not a word
: about a break in period from IWC, Rolex
: or Union. Strange. I also looked in the owners manual for my truck,
: no break in period from Cummins. But,
: if they did specify one, I don't believe they would want to
: overhaul it after that period. Let me
: tell you this, it does run better the more milage there is on it.
: So, are you gonna send it to them after
: the break in is over? And, are they gonna charge you for this
: service? Thanks.......David
David: I doubt I'll get it (the Grand Seiko, that is) serviced until about 10 years as I wear it infrequently and don't believe in watch winders. As your bro' once wisely said, if the watch isn't running, it's not wearing out. Grand Seikos don't have their service included. I own a few Citzen Chronomasters - they are quartz - and their servicing is included for 10 years. (you have to send those back to Japan). I do believe in servicing watches, but haven't ever serviced a watch before its 12th birthday. Roger.
