Screw down crown question

Since I now have several automatics in my collection I have been having a heck of a time rotating them in such a way that they get wound. I know I know...I need a winder. Anyway sometime I have to wind my watches with screw down crowns either after they stop or if I want to give them a good reserve if they will be sitting for a couple of days. What worries me is does this necessarily harm them? I am most concerned for my SMP. They dont mention anything in the manual as a caution etc. Words of wisdom would be helpful.
