questions about the Seamaster Pro Chronometer

I'm the proud owner of a brand new 2254.50.00 full-size Seamaster Pro Chronometer black face/bezel in steel and I have some questions for you.

1) what will it take to scratch the synthetic sapphire crystal? not that I want to, but I would like to know the crystals tolerance level...
2) for a watch that's acclaimed for being so sturdy and robust, it also sounds like it needs to be babied and pampered. What's your opinion on this? Should I buy a cheepie Timex or G-Shock for swimming or chilling out on the beach?
3) If I buy the watch in New York but live in Singapore, will I have to pay for servicing/maintenance at an authorized dealer in Singapore or should I ship my watch back to the authorized dealer I purchased it from in New York?
4) Do the seals really have to be checked every year?
5) Is soap really that harmful to this watch? Can I wash my hands with it on?
