In Response To: I am satisfied with the current tack in this... (Chicagoland Chuck Maddox)
ok I think its my turn to add to this
this is the first time I have posted on this forum and I was surprised and a little offended by Davids response - how was i supposed to know whats in jest when it appears as a written word One of my points... Without additional text or emoticons like: =) ;-) >-} 8-o..... Its hard to tell.
this kind of comment puts new users off using forums like this and I thank Chuck for his intervention which puts my mind at ease and makes me think I will use this forum again I guess one of my thoughts is, what if I had replied like that when Jeff Stein contacted me back in 2002? There would be no OnTheDash today.
You never know when the next person you meet may be someone really important in the future. First impressions are strong ones. This is why we should welcome first time posters like they were our parents, grandparents or children (neices and nephews too!).
several of my friends have vintage heuers and they too are 'new' and may not know everything there is to know about them and require help from time to time - if I said to them that you get shot down to pieces for posting threads on this forum then none of them would use it and the whole thing just gets bigger! The more people who participate the more potential we have to learn. New "Blood" is essential for any community to continue to grow and evolve.
as it is Davids comments were incorrect as I had searched the site but the watch he identified is not the same as it does not have a date! so in this case I was even more surprised with such a know all tone (which at best comes across as elitist - ie: only expert heuer collectors to post etc) I'm sure I have come across that way at times, too. And in all fairness I've posted replies that have started out with "5 minutes of poking around reveals" or something similar in the past. So I'm not going to get on David's case for that. As we have yet to write a step by step guide on how to use this site. Some of my posts might be a good starting point, but we need to follow through on that.
I am still looking for info on this manual autavia siffert WITH DATE so any CORRECT info would be appreciated I should also point out that our tables aren't complete, just what we have been able to determine thus far. So it may be that we don't have the answer. Frankly, and unfortunately if we don't know, TAG-Heuer and other Heuer sites on line might be hard pressed to find a better answer.
I thank Chuck for his help and restoring my confidence in people who use this forum and David thanks for the help - but admitting you were slightly in the wrong would be nice! Hopefully JHB's reply is able to case a little additional light on the topic. I'll keep my eyes open too.
And David, if you are looking in... Don't worry about this too much. We all have lesser moments, which are fine as long as we learn.
Sincerely to all concerned! Now... Enough of all this!!! LET'S TALK WATCHES!
