Buy This Watch . . . Now ! ! !
I know that we try to keep this Discussion Forum entirely non-commercial, but I am declaring this one-time exception to the rule!!
Last Thursday evening, during a late night surfing sesssion, I found that Guinand (the brand currently owned / operated / inspired by the legendary Helmut Sinn) will be making a new series of 100 chronographs, to be powered by our beloved Caliber 12 . . . that's right, these new chronographs will use the Cal 12 movement!!
Here is a PDF that provides some additional information, but here is what I know (or think I know):
- Mr. Sinn purchased the "Guinand" name, and that is the current brand through which he is creating new watches. Here is a link that will take you to the Guinand website
- With the last few years, Guinand / Mr. Sinn acquired a limited number of Cal 12 movements . . . actual movements made in the 1970's, but stored all these years.
- Guinand created the "Buren 12 Chronomatic" to use these movements, and will produce a limited series of 100 chronographs.
- The watches will be released in late November / early December, and the company is currently taking reservations for the watches.
- Yes, you can select your own number, subject to availibility.
- Yes, I am buying one . . . the first new watch I will have purchased, ever in my life (other than plastic running watches)
So let me ask the questions: Have the rest of you guys seen this watch? What do you think of it? Is this just my sense of nostalgia and love of the Cal 12 that made me rush to order this watch, or do others agree that this is a great looking watch . . . check out those blued screws!!
And now, the final question: If TAG-Heuer had made this watch back in 2003, as the re-issue of the Autavia (let's say in the black colour scheme and the Siffert colour scheme), would we all be wearing them?
Jeff
A footnote to all this: This past Friday morning, I called the Guinand offices, at 8:15 a.m. (local time in Germany), and Mr. Sinn (age 91) was already at work!!
