as we explore the Heritage / DNA of our old Heuers, it's interesting to see the evolution / mutations that have affected some of the other "classic" brands.
These new Xtreme El Primeros have been successful, and many enthusiasts must like the design . . . but the more I see them, the more I appreciate TAG-Heuer's commitment to its Heritage / DNA.
If you were collecting the classic Zeniths (146 movement, circa 1964, and El Primero, circa 1969), how would you feel when your brand launched these new watches?
Jeff You know Jeff, I've been coming back and looking at these current Zenith products off and on ever since you posted it last week. The images you posted have most certainly left a stain in my brain that I can't easily wipe up. In fact I am reminded of what Chicago Bears World Champion Quarterback Jim McMahon said about Bourbon Street the week before the Super Bowl..."We went down there on Monday night to see what it was all about, then we went back on Tuesday night to make sure what we saw Monday night was really what we saw Monday night!'...
So I had circled back [again] tonight to make sure what I had seen on the 8th [and 9th] was really what I had seen, and I was looking at the pictures [above] of the Zenith's you had pointed out, and I was thinking to myself: "I've seen this before... but where? Where?" and then it hit me... These watches remind me of the artwork of H. R. Giger most famous for the Album Art of Emerson Lake and Palmer's "Brain Salad Sugery" and the Movie Alien...
You too can pay twice as much money as you used to be able to for a watch with this movement and in return you get a watch that you can't easily read and looks ugly and will give your kids nightmares.
What do you think? I'm I on target or was my epiphany way off the mark? |
