Hello Jonny,
What you actually pay when importing into the UK is VAT (17.5%) on the value listed on the Customs form. If the watch is sent by post the Post Office also charge a handling fee of between £7 to £15 for collecting the VAT. It is a bit hit and miss as sometimes the Customs charge the VAT and sometimes they don't.
If the watch is sent by a carrier such as FedEx then it is less likely you will be charged VAT - I don't know why this is - perhaps FedEx bulk parcel loads just go straight through. However, carrier prices are considerably dearer than the post so depending on value of the watch it may not be worth the extra cost and there is still a chance you will be charged.
Hope this helps. Jack
