Excellent Analysis, Arno

Arno:

I think that your analysis is excellent and that your tiers / layers of prices that you suggest are generally accurate. Indeed, it has been some months since we have seen a really nice, no-questions-asked, pristine Monaco 1133B on ebay (and this is probably the best explanation as to why we have not seen the sales hit the $9,000 to $10,000 range).

I thought that Stewart's might go higher than $12,000, but this is a very thin market (not too many buyers and sellers) and summertime is often the weak season. People are at the beach, enjoying their A&F Seafarers, and the Monacos do not do so well in the saltwater!!

: Gentlemen, my current market observations would be 7500$ for a polished case and backcase, shadows and some blemishes on the dial or subdials (possibly 95% of the Monacos would fall in this category, Monacos were not always as popular as today hence not very cared for during their lifecycles) 10000$ for a mint one with no seal problem, backcase grinding still intact, matching patina on luminous dots and hands, light surface scratches and finally 12000 to 14000$ for a new old stock one with no seal-dial problem. Good ones which were never messed up are really getting very rare. Top quality pieces are easier to sell as the market is very dry on these and most collectors are becomming experts and want top end pieces rather than cheaper chunk.
: Any views ?
