Possibly a symptom of the relatively low overall volume of the Monaco? What was it Jack Heuer said about this at the Collectors Meeting - about 5000 total production and considered less than a resounding success at the time?

It could well be, then, that they ordered more 1153 cases than they could sell and ended up using lots of them for 1553s too. I do like the way our Heuers throw up little clues like this from time to time!
