Agree 100% David
The whole McQueen thing has gone crazy - as many know I'm a bigger classic Porsche fanatic than I am a Heuer one and appreciate the connection with McQueen, the value of the Le Mans film etc.
However at Classic Le Mans this year the McQueen connection was just too much. It's always been quite heavy but it was ludicrous this time. Every other stand had an image or were selling something McQueen related. I was with near on 100 other Classic Porsche fans and they're all feeling the same - it's gone a bit too far and is actually cheapening the connection and heritage.
: Nice Heuer Monaco: $15,000
: Nice Heuer Monaco "worn by Steve": $800,000
: Just because you have one form of verification, doesn't mean that
: a) others don't have other forms of "proof" and b)
: others won't argue till their dying breath that they also have
: the real thing.
: The prize for mounting a case that you have a "Worn by
: Steve" Monaco is worth the effort.
: Frankly, the whole thing is crazy. You can buy Ayrton Senna's (a
: real driver, not a pretend one) personal watch (not one he wore
: for 10 minutes) for less than $50k.
