The funny thing is I had a slightly different answer to you as my answer would have been that Alex in A Clockwork Orange has an early Michell turntable to listen to Beethoven (quite an important aspect of the book/film, that is the Beethoven is important, not the turntable)
Your answer is even better as I love 2001 whereas I can respect Clockwork Orange but it is not really likeable or enjoyable.
