I read your comments about the Red Dot at the 3 minute mark. To use it for timing an egg does not make sense. However, in Switzerland in the 1950's and 60's, the telephone company charged phone calls in 3 minute increments. So you wanted to keep your calls to less than 3 or 6 or 9 minutes. If you talked for 3 1/2 minutes you got charged for 6 and so on. So, a lot of chronograph dials during this time period showed these 3 minute markings on the minute totalizers. By the 1970's these markings disappeared because the telephone billing changed. Therefore I would say the Red Dot is the telephone timer reminder. There is no military application for this.
