Was your offer consistent with what the watch may have sold on Chronotrader (for example), but below the mid/high estimates of the auction? As you say, people may be more discerning with their funds, willing to pay reasonable current market for a nice example, but not get "caught-up" in the frenzy of a auction and push values to a new market high. Just a thought. Will be interesting to see the results.
