Indeed, the markings on the chronograph minute recorder are as follows:
The chronograph minute hand (needle) moves as on any other chronograph -- jumping in one minute increments, so it never lands on the 2.5, 7.5, 12.5, etc. minute markers. In the photograph below, the chronograph is showing 2 minutes, 21 seconds. It would then jump past the 2.5 minute marker, to indicate three minutes.
Yes, I believe that this is the triumph of the designers over the users of the chronograph, and it makes the chronograph minute recorder very difficult to read.
