Dear Jae, alao very sad to hear this. Sure I did not know Derek in person, but having all his contributions to the chrono world in mind....inclusive this board, makes me very sad.
I'm sure NOT interested why all ended up by this: I only have to say it needs an enormous human force to pass yourself away: I always remember the book: DER WERTHER from Wolfgnag Goethe (He also wrote "Faust!): here Goethe describes on page 11-13 suicide as a sort of freedom: you are always free to go if you like...and you can descide it yourself!...and finally this happens at the end of the book...
I know this is not very helpful for the familiy: but probably this was helpful for Derek!
