Jeff:
Please keep in mind that I was not critical in any way as to how the forum is run.
If you look at my account I posted here as early as 2004 :)
Although I have been collecting vintage watches for close to 30 years now, my collecting is not focused on one brand.
Therefore when I want to know something about vintage Heuer this is the place I go to for answers :)
I do appreciate the fact that the forum is not heavily moderated as are some others.
My suggestion is simply to politely out the offending poster by replying to their post with "poor form, read the rules".
The offending party will soon learn :) This is something that any long time member can do when coming across a post which should not be here.
I have lots of watches which I want to find a new home for since I am getting close to retirement, however
I would not post a watch for sale here which does not adhere to the rules. Some who have been around this forum for a long time
should not post a Rolex Datejust, for example, as it is not really a tool watch. Nor should one post a Cartier Tank for sale here.
Hopefully I did not step on too many toes ;)
If you have a PayPal account I would gladly contribute every time I make a sale on this forum :)
: Yes, I am well aware of the general character and content of the
: ChronoTrader Forum. And I still believe that it is worthwhile to
: maintain in its current form, at least for now.
: Let me point out that I have funded operation of the forum for
: almost 17 years, and have not made the first dollar from it. It
: is free for both buyers and sellers; some will say
: "thanks"; most don't bother; it really doesn't matter
: to me either way. But when people write to me demanding that I
: remove 50 of their previous messages, or asking that I host 20
: of their photos . . . that's where I draw the line. No Thanks.
: I do not want to waste my time policing the forums -- whether the
: Heuer discussion forum or ChronoTrader. If someone wants to
: volunteer, just send me your information and we can see what
: might be possible. In the meanwhile, I believe that most of our
: buyers are able to fend for themselves.
: I can report that in the almost 17 years that ChronoTrader has been
: online, I believe there have been one or two instances of buyers
: being ripped off (and they were not very smart in their
: "due diligence").
: It would be nice to move to a new software platform, but migrating
: 200,000 messages will be a real challenge. Not to mention the
: profiles, etc. This is on my "to do" list, but I must
: confess that it is not at the top of the list. Again -- reach
: out to me if you want to fund or manage this project.
: Thanks,
: Jeff
