Plus there was the US Distributor to pay. Add this to the currency uncertainty, shipping costs, etc and it all adds up.

I remember when it used to be cheaper to buy wine straight from the cellar door...and then they realised that people got caught up in the romance of buying from the vineyard itself and would pay a premium and so in Australia its often more expensive to buy wine direct than from a retailer...logic goes out the window
