Re: Antiquorum Auction Hong Kong #38 Carrera

There are Carreras with this tachy ring, but they are very rare with the black dial - if you look closely, you'll see that it's the same scale as the familiar red scale tachys.

Doesn't mean that the watch from the auction is a Carrera though. There was never a Carrera with those indices and numeral at 12. There were however, pre-Carreras that look a lot like that. Look at the 404 at the top left of this catalogue. Look familiar?

My best guess is that the watch is a late model 2444 T, which has adopted the look of that 404 and someone somewhere along the line has added "Carrera" to the dial to attempt to increase its value. Look at the "Carrera" text on the high definition photo on the site - the font is really quite badly wrong. The font for the Tachy scale had changed by the time it was used on the Carrera too, becoming less "serify" than it is on the watch pictured.

Pretty easy to conclude it is a "redial", an attempt to make something into a Carrera that isn't. Shame really, as it's quite a nice watch in itself.
