Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but...
In Response To: To Monaco or not to Monaco ()

In my opinion a bad thing, re-edition Monacos are nothing like as nice in the flesh as vintage, the case on the original is beautiful to look and touch, the grinding and polishing are so much nicer, the hands look better compared to the modern ones, general detailing including the dial script is superior. For me the new ones don't even come close...but maybe for you they will...?

Apart from price (never buy one new wait for used examples they lose 30% minimum within 6 months) only reason to buy a new one in my opinion is for its waterproofness, the vintage ones don't even like looking at water ;-)

Cheers

: I'll admit, I wasn't a big fan of the Monaco. Before you burn me at
: the stake, I think I've come around to loving it.

: My Heuer journey began with what I knew, and that was and still is
: divers. But being part of this lil community has opened up a
: love for other Heuer watches, like the Autavias and other
: mechanical marvels. I appreciate other models, but don't like
: them. Take the Silverstone - beautiful watch, but I can't stand
: it. MAybe in years to come it'll be one of my favourites, who
: knows.

: Anyway, back to the Monaco. Yep, this big ugly square thing that
: everyone goes on about has started to draw me in. It's starting
: to look beautiful. Although the brain-washing of this site has
: lead me to believe that it comes with a multi coloured
: friendship bracelet, a glass of cognac and a cigar ;0)
: So, I'm thinking about selling off a few from my collection to make
: room for one. There is one thing that gets in the way - the new
: soon to be released Monaco Grey LE (badged Heuer, not TAG
: Heuer)... I think it's gorgeous, but it's not vintage. This
: leads me on further, it's not vintage, so why not consider the
: first (cw2113) TAG Heuer blue 'Mcqueen' Monaco, which could be
: had for $2000ish (which would allow some funds to be spent on
: cognac/cigars, getting a nice tan and a colourful bracelet) -
: I'm seriously considering it... is this a bad thing?
